It's maple syrup time at Brookside school

Primary news
Mrs. Cameron's Kindergarten
class took a trip to Robinson's
Maple Sugar Bush.,They also made
rain people out of wallpaper. Spring
has come so they planted green
beans, sunflower and pumpkin
seeds and are waiting for them to
sprout. In art they made kites and
stand up Easter bunnies.
Mrs. McMillen's Kindergarten
class is busy learning about making
maple syrup, sweet poems and
songs. They made a big book in the
library with Mrs. Clarke, called
Yummy in My Tummy and another
book in their class called My
Favorite Dessert. They love reading
the books to their parents. For
Easter they made a big book called
Soft as a Bunny. They also received
a letter and a visit from the Easter
Bunny.
Mrs. Hodsman's Grade 1 class
also visited Robinson's Maple
Sugar bush. They have been
studying maple sugar. They made.
booklets, and together the class
made one big book. Mrs. McMil-
len's and Mrs. Hodsman's class
enjoyed pancakes with maple syrup
and a big fruit salad. The class is.
Looking forward to going to the
circus.
Miss Roberts and Miss Anguish's
Grade 1/2 have been studying eggs
in environmental studies and are
starting reading centres in sleep and
darkness. Many of the winter
animal projects have been
completed. Everyone can be
congratulated for their hard, work
and excellent results. The books are
proudly displayed in their
classroom. Their trip to Robinson's
Maple Sugar bush . will begin
explorations of spring.
Mrs. Baker's and Miss Wise's
Grade 2/3 class have been doing

Lots of activities on wolves. They
have done wolf pictures, booklets
and stories. They have made wolf
masks and research booklets in the
library. In math the grade twos are
learning to add and subtract up to
999. The grade threes are learning
to multiply and divide. They are
also making butterfly mobiles.
• Junior news
Mrs. Worsell's class has been
writing .stories about little people
and making their stories into little
books. They have been studying
Canada's new food guide, and
examining their own eating habits.
They had a spelling test on
homonyms last week and the grade
sixes had one on the multiplication
and division of decimals.
Mrs. Tebbutt's Grade 3/4 class
have just completed some spring
duck containers. Thanks to Mrs.
Webster for the wonderful art les-
son and the very useful containers -
in which they have been able to
organize pencils, pens and eraser.
Their Blue Jay collage is actually
looking fuller with each passing
day. They are anticipating ' the
Spring Opening Day with en-
thusiasm. They are also planning to
join the Blue Jays fan club.
Mr. Culp has given his class an
assignment. The students are to.
think of the comic character Bugs
Bunny as the Easter Dunny. The
only restriction is that no violence
is to be used.
Mr. Lobo's class has been
studying ancient Greek in language
arts. In math they have drawn pic-
ture graphs. They have built 3-13
structures in art and , are drawing
ancientgreek sports. Gym class has
been fund doing activities such as
crab soccer.

Intermediate news
In Mrs. Dozois' Grade 6/7 both
grades have been busy with a
vocabulary unlit. The grade sevens
are also going to be busy with
cheese sales this month. In science
the grade sevens have been busy
working on an energy unit.
Miss Morton's Grade 7/8 .class
has been very busy this month
working on songs from the play
Oliver. Both grades also had a math
test on Apr. 1.
Mr. Hazlitt's Grade 8 class has
been working on Oliver songs also.
They are also working on a visual
novel.
Special Events
The basketball teams have been
working hard preparing to compete
in the tournament on Apr. 17 at
Colborne school. We really ap-
preciate all the hard work Miss
Roberts, Miss Morton and Miss
Anguish have put into making this
year's team work harder and do
their best. Thank you.
The Science Fair was on Apr. 5
and the Educational Fair is on Apr.
22 and 23.
This year's spring concert will be
based on the musical Oliver.
