Large crowd attends official opening
Despite the inclement weathet on
Friday, Feb. 12 a good crowd was
on hand for the ribbon cutting of
the Huron and Kinloss Municipal
Telephone System. The open house
began at 8:30 a.m. with the official
ceremonies beginning at 10 a.m.J.
S. Robb, chairman of the board had
the opening remarks to begin the
event. Presentations were made to
Snider Richard March, Architect,
and J and J Construction contractor.
Guests speakers were Murray
Elston, M.P.P., Cecil Sutton, Reeve
of Ripley, Murray Thompson,
Huron Township Reeve, and'Glenn
Grubb, General Manager of Huron
and Kinloss Municipal Telephone
System.
A special presentation of a cellu-
lar telephone was presented to the
Ripley -Huron Fire Department.
Participating in the ribbon cutting
were Murray Elston, J. S. Robb,
Jack Campbell, Sandy Pollock -and
Glenn Grubb.

Ripley Playschool
,- The Ripley and District Lion's
Club held their annual skating car-
nival on .Friday, Feb. 12 at the
Ripley -Huron Complex. Young and
old alike were adorned in costume
to .take in -the fun of the evening.
There was an excellent turnout of
participants and spectators.
In the preschool category the
winners were; first, Kendra .Lotion
dressed as a ice cream cone;, Ryan
Armstrong dressed as Charlie
Chaplin; Jacqueline Colling dressed
as a bunny; Caitlyn Trendal dressed
as a witch; Nicole Elliott dressed as
the Queen of Hearts; Trevor
Courtney dressed as a ladybug. -
In the kindergarten and grade one
category the winners were; first,
Shea Armstrong dressed as
Robinhood; Kaitlyn Colling dressed
as a princess; Kurt Edwards dressed
as Batman; Jenna vanOsh dressed
as a ladybug; Christina Clifford
dressed as a lion; Kathleen Lot;ton
dressed as a Valentine.
For the grade two and three group
the winners were; ^ first, Angie
Nicholson dressed as an upside
down clown; Kelly Ann Smith
dressed as a cheerleader; Candice
vanderHoek, a flower vase; Trent
Devitt; Dracula; Randy Edwards, as
Miss Ripley; Joey Bowers as a convict
The junior ,grade winners were;
first, Joef Caslick as Mario; Corinne'

Meredith Bowers as Ace of. Hearts;
Kraig Bell as a goalie; Shannon
Walden as an , apple and Janine
.Farrell as an, apple. ,
Grade seven and eight winners
were; first, Amy Farrell as a baker;
Lori Walden as, the Queen of
Kristen Johnson played a g;`eat
Rgame in net.
IPLEY - ` Petite
The petite team hosted Tiverton
on Feb. 11 and narrowly defeated
their opponents 5-4. Jami Mitchell
tallied 'a pair of goals assisted by
team mate Krista Armstrong,
Denise Rintoul, Shannon Walden
and Stacey Elliott tallied the
remaining goals for Ripley assisted
by Kerry Shewfelt.
Tiverton returned to Ripley on
Feb. 13 and returned the score
around defeating Ripley by an
identical 5-4 score. Jami Mitchell
scored a pair of goals and singles
were earned by Krista Armstrong
and Stacey Elliott. Shannon
Walden and Kerry Shewfelt. rachel
MacKay played two great games in
net.
Tween
The Ripley tweens played a
strong game' on Feb. 13 when they
hosted Owen Sound. They defeated
their opponents 13=8. Carolyn
Gdttinger led the attack for Ripley
tallying four goals and two assists.
Regan Carruthers and Reagan
Courtney each earned a hat trick.
Single goals were tallied by Erin
Rintoul, Jenny MacDonald and
Natalie Davidson. Earning assists
were Amy Farrell, Lindsay
McLelland, Melissa Hollands,
Melanie Bannerman, Danielle
Murray, .lessie Thomson' and Lori
Walden. 'Sarah MacKay played a
good game in net.
Hearts; Sarah MacKay as the King
of Hearts; Heather Clifford as a
pirate.
In the adult category the winners
were; first, Doug Martyn; Gail
Lofton Shelly McGyln; Kerry
Houston; Wally Houston and
Donalda Pollard.
The youngest skater on skates
was Jessica Quinn. The largest
family on skates was "The
Cliffords" with eight members.
The Scott family had seven skaters
and the Houston had five on skates.
The prettiest little Valentine was
Brooke Kempton. The oldest male
skater was Doug Martyn and the
oldest female skater was Donalda
Pollard.
A good time was had by all, and
the Lion's club would like to thank
everyone who participated in this
event. See everyone back again
next year.
Ripley -Huron Ringette
Novice
The Ripley girls hosted Tiverton
on Feb. 14 and skated in a well
contested game. The spectators
were kept on the edge of their seat
as the girls played in a goal for
goal game. Ripley finally came out
on top as the buzzer ended the
game 8-7. Carla Somogyvary led
the attack tallying five goals for
Ripley. Single goals were scored
by Deanne • Larsen, Candice
vanderHoek and Cayley
MacDonald. Team, mates working
hard to set up these goals were
Katie O'Byrne and Melissa Freer.
