Members of the Lucknow Junior
Women's Institute learned about
reflexology and massage during
their February 9 meeting.
Local reflexologist, Murray Irvin,
was assisted by Sandra Giesbrecht
and Karen Slater. They are all
registered with the Reflexology
Association of Canada, a chartered
non-profit association formed in
1979 with members from coast to
coast.
Murray . explained that there are
areas in the feet which correspond
to all organs, glands and body parts.
By stimulating the nerve endings,
through physically applying pres-
sure by using various thumb, finger
and hand techniques, stress is
reduced.

person relax. "With today's hectic
pace, if a person can have one hour
of stress -free time, the body will
obviously be healthier," said

And how did he get into
reflexology? Murray said his first
interest was aroused following the
involvement of his wife in an acci-
dent. As he accompanied her to
various forms of therapy, in an
attempt to learn ways he could help
her at home, he was exposed to
reflexology. He subsequently
trained for one year with Janet
McNally in Clinton, a certified
reflexology teacher, who Murray
says has been in the field for 25

Harvey McQuillin retires
from shipping industry
Harvey McQuillin, son of Emily
and the late Dick McQuillin of
Holyrood, recently retired from the
Canada Steamship Lines Co. At the
annual Captains and Chiefs meeting
in Quebec City, he was presented
with his retirement award.
Starting as a deckhand at the age
of 18 in 1948, Mr. McQuillin
worked his way'up- earning his
Master's ticket in 1970, and
received his first ship in 1973.
In 1984 he became skipper on his
first new ship, the Prairie Harvest,
which was one of the last ships to
be side -launched at the
Collingwood Shipyards. •
Among his long list of accom-
plishments on his untarnished' ten-
ure on the Great Lakes, was receiv-
ing the Top Hat as the first vessel
through the Welland Canal as it
opened in the spring, and being
appointed honorary Commodore of
the CSL fleet during the last years
aboard his'ship, the M,V. Rithilieu.
Along with this last task came the
job of escorting dignitaries from the
shipping industry as guests aboard
his ship, as it plied the waters of
the Great Lakes and the SL Law-
rence Seaway.
ey's brothers have also sailed
all eir lives - Jack, of Holyrood,
as a marine engineer, and Harold of
the Thunder Bay area, also an
engineer. Harvey's brother-in-law,
Bob McNay of Amberley, a second
officer, has sailed with Harvey
aboard his ship for several years.
