The Rural Voice, 1983-12, Page 65FEDERATION OF AGRICULTURE Huron County Federation of Agriculture Directors Meeting October 20, 1983 The meeting was held at the Hullett Central School, Londesboro at 8:30 p.m. Tony McQuail welcomed every- one. Minutes of the last meeting were read, approved on a motion by Paul Klopp, seconded by Bob Harrison. Carried. Correspondence: A letter was receiv- ed by Environment Canada inform- ing us of their conference in Hamilton on Oct. 27-29 on "Envi- ronmental Challenges". Doug Gar- niss made a motion that we send Nor- man Alexander as a representative for H.C.F.A., seconded by John Nesbit. Carried. Finances: A discussion was held on county finances. It was moved by Doug Garniss to withdraw $1500.00 from our term deposit account to pay our outstanding accounts, seconded by Brenda McIntosh. Carried. Mo- tion by Mel Greig, seconded by Paul Klopp to pay Huron Business Machine $74.95 and John and Anne Nesbit $65.75 (telephone). Carried. John Nesbit reported on the O.F.A. directors' meeting he attended the previous day. Membership now stands at 26,602 in Ontario, down five since this time last year. The Health Plan will likely be going up in price in Jan./84. Details to follow before year end. The main activity in Morris is foreign ownership. Morris town- ship is starting to work on their secondary plan. Morris and East Wawanosh are holding a Christmas Dance in Blyth on Nov. 26,/83. Tickets are available from line direc- tors. Bruce Bergsma, Hullett - reported on behalf of Ralph DeWeerd, president. Hullett is inactive and needs some ac- tion. Ministry of Natural Resources: Doug Garniss and Barry Mason at- tended a meeting in Hanover on "Flood Plain Criteria". Motion by Doug Garniss, seconded by Bert Sanders that H.C.F.A. prepare a brief to be sent to the Flood Plain Committee. Carried. Brief to be in by Dec. 31. 1983. President Tony attended an N.D.P. Task Force Hearing in Wingham with Mel Swart and Donald MacDonald conducting the hearing. Over 50 people attended to present their con- cerns about the agricultural industry. Briefs were presented by 15 different farm groups. Tony also attended the Grey County Federation Annual Meeting. Fieldman Blaine Stephenson has been out with the new regional directors in their respective areas. There was some discussion about possibly hav- ing individual workshops in each of their areas for line directors and new people involved in the federation. Doug Garniss requested some help to tape the next segment of C.K.N.X. Radio's Saturday morning broad- cast --Walter Elliott will talk on cont. on page 63 NOM ILO OIIIe.
