OMAF Boardroom
President Harold Poechman
reported that the executive had met
and prepared two briefs which were
presented to the NDP Task Force on
Agriculture in Wingham on Oct. 5
and the Liberal Task Force on Rural
Communities in Hanover on Oct. 21.
Both briefs were very well received.
Copies of the briefs will be mailed out
to all directors with the next meeting
notice.
Secretary Mary Harvie presented
the fieldman's report prepared by
Doug Gowanlock.
All members should be aware that
the cost and payout of group life in-
surance has been increased as of Sept.
1, 1983. New pamphlets will be
available shortly.
A meeting to arrange a directors'
seminar for Grey and Bruce counties
will be held in Hanover Oct. 24.
Grant Collins and Ron Garland will
represent Bruce county.
Jim Powers gave a brief rundown
on the activities of the Farm Financial
Advisory Service. He indicated that
the group is seeing some success but
progress is slow. Jim cautioned that
whenever anything is signed at any
lending institution, ask for a copy im-
mediately, don't wait for it to be
mailed; get the copy at time of sign-
ing. Also cash flows should be initial-
ed and a copy received so that no
changes can be made unknown to the
borrower.
All directors working on the Farm
Financial Advisory Committee are
reminded to fill out expense sheets as
OMAF has agreed to pay mileage and
out-of-pocket expenses incurred after
June 1, 1983. The county is paying
the per diem for members.
The Bruce County Federation
directors voted in favour of gradual
fee increases for ISM memberships,
for example, five dollars per year for
at least the next three years. It was
felt gradual increases yearly were bet-
ter than larger increases every two or
three years as had been the practice in
the past.

that whatever changes are made re
future directions policy of OFA,
should have no adverse effect on the
present financial condition of any

taken to convention by Bruce County
delegates.
Plans are being formulated by the
Meetings Committee for the annual
meeting. When the date and location
are finalized, tickets will be printed
and mailed to all directors.
It was moved by Keith Reid and
seconded by Ken Robinson that, due
to lack of interest, the annual curling
bonspiel will not be held this year.
A final report on foreign owner-
ship has been prepared on a township
basis. In total, there are 14,550 acres
under foreign ownership according to
township records. This far exceeds
what the federal government reports
on foreign ownership in Bruce.
Copies of this information will be
sent to Jack Riddell, Murray Elston,
Gary Gurbin, Bob McKessock and
Murray Cardiff.
Everyone is reminded that nomina-
tions are now being received for the
Bruce County "Farmer of the Year"
Award. This award will be held
November 22 at the OMAF board-
room, Walkerton. ❑
