Wilford speaks at Normanby meeting
The Federation of Agriculture
needs the support of all its members if
it is to be successful. If attendance at
an annual meeting is any indication
of support, the Normanby Federation
of Agriculture should be considered
an organization with strong member
backing.
About 140 people attended the an-
nual banquet and meeting held in
Ayton recently. There are 157 Federa-
the county level are gravel extraction
and the hydro line, according to Hill.
Guest speaker of the evening, Allen
Wilford, president of the Farm Sur-
vival Association, outlined the role of
his organization and its position in
the community. He sees unemploy-
ment as a result of the farm problem
stating that 51 per cent of Bruce
county farmers have to work off the
farm.

tion of Agriculture members in the
township, representing about 40 per
cent of the farming population.
Don Hill, newly -elected president
of the Grey County Federation of
Agriculture, brought greetings from
the county saying, "The Federation is
your organization, one of the good
voices farmers have." He encouraged
members to take an active role and
express their concerns and opinions
to the federation. Two key issues at
Wilford has been travelling
throughout Canada and the U.S.
observing the crisis in agriculture and
finds the situation much worse in the
U.S. than here. He finds that isola-
tion is a problem in both countries
because many farmers feel it's hap-
pening only to them.
Bob Brusso, president of the Nor-
manby Federation of Agriculture an-
nounced that he is ending his second
three-year term as a director because
directors are allowed only two con-
secutive three-year terms. Brusso has
been president for the past three years
and during that time has been very in-
strumental in promoting the federa-
tion's credibility. "People are realiz-
ing they need an organization to
speak for them," he said.0
