We wanted to do something different this month,
something special for the holiday season - something
we've wanted to do for a long time.
Twelve years ago, just about this time, Malcolm
Davidson, a Huron county farmer, was killed by a car
as he crossed the road to one of his cornfields. Many
Ontario farmers heard about it the same day. That's
because Davidson had become known across the pro-
vince for his zest and involvement in the agricultural
community.
We have been gathering material about Malcolm
Davidson for some time and decided that now, when
farmers are just finishing their corn harvest and their
plowing, we would like to pay tribute to Malcolm
Davidson for his contributions to agriculture in On-
tario.
Full marks will have to go to the local federations this
month - their activities fill the news section -regional
meetings in Bruce -township meetings in Grey - their in-
volvement with the farm tax rebate program. Then, at
the end of November, delegates from the four counties
will be attending the OFA convention in Toronto. One
interesting fact has come to our attention. Nine of the
resolutions being presented to convention come from
this four -county area. The fourteen other resolutions
come from all the other counties combined. That says
something about the interest and involvement in
agriculture that comes from this area.
If we can have the last word, we'd like to express
Season's Greetings to our readers, to our advertisers
and to those who have contributed to the success of The
Rural Voice. Safe and Happy Holidays to all of you
from all of us.
