Regional Annual Meeting HCFA
Londesboro Public School

The meeting for the five ISM
regions in Huron county was held as
one joint meeting this year.
President Tony McQuail opened
the meeting by welcoming everyone.
Minutes of last year's meeting were
read, approved on a motion by Jim
McIntosh, seconded by Walter
Elliott. Carried.
Regional Directors Reports:
Merle Gunby...Huron Northwest
(Ashfield, Colborne, East Wawa.,
West Waw.) has been regional direc-
tor for six years and has been on the
OFA executive for the past two years.
Merle spoke on Canagrex, currently
being put into effect as supported by
OFA, Bill ('653, the revival of the
Farmers' Creditors Arrangement Act
and the property tax issue of the past
few months. The death of first vice-
president Ron White and second vice-
president Ron Jones were two sad
events of the past OFA year. Merle
also said he was planning to give up
the position of regional director this
year and let someone else have the op-
portunity.
Gerry Fortune... Huron Northeast
(Turnberry, Howick & Grey), has
also been regional director for six
years and plans to resign. Gerry
spoke on past involvement of HCFA
and OFA since she has been a
regional director for six years—for-
eign ownership, petty trespass legisla-
ture, preserving the family farm,
mass rallies, mass meetings, member-
ship drives, the economics of farm-
ing, and land use issues.
John Nesbit, Huron East Central
(Morris, McKillop & Hullett), has
been regional director for three years.
John spoke on the FFAS, Farm
Financial Assistance Program (there
have been approximately 90 cases in
Ontario aided in the past year), Agri -
bonds (we should be lobbying our
MP s for these), Income Stabilization
Ontario Corn Producers Association,
the Crow Rate, Property Tax Rebate
and a meeting Huron county held
with Perth county along with 24
bankers. John also indicated his in-
tention to give up his directorship.
Jim McIntosh, Huron West Cen-
tral (Goderich, Tuckersmith,
Stanley), is on the OFA Municipal
Liaison Property Committee. Some
of the items the committee has work-
ed on this past year are: natural gas
leases, Line Fences Act and the Plan-
ning Act.
Paul Klopp, Huron South (Hay,
Stephen & Usborne), was unable to
be present.
