advance requested, plus $100 per re-
quest for corn stored in a licensed
storage area or $130 per request for
corn which is stored on-farm.
The extra $30 for on-farm storage
will pay for on-farm inspections. The
10 per cent portion will be deposited
in trust and will be returned to the
producer when the advance has been
repaid. The advance is interest free to
the farmer and the grower's ten per
cent is likewise returned without in-
terest.
The federal deadline for applica-
tion is December 15 and payments
should be forwarded within two to
three weeks of approval.
There will be a board meeting of
the Association during the first week
of September to work out further
details. There are presently 1,300
members in the Association but there
are 26,000 corn growers in the pro-
vince. Membership fee is $25. C7
Junior Farmer Tour
The best way to learn is to get out
and ask questions and that is just
what a group of young farmers did
recently when they toured farms gain-
ing insight into soil and crop manage-
ment.
The 48 young farmers from across
the province are just starting out in
farming or getting ready to farm and
were chosen by their local county
organizations to take part in the tour
sponsored co-operatively by OMAF
and the Junior Farmers.
The group was based out of Cen-
tralia College and toured Perth,
Huron Oxford and Middlesex coun-
ties.
The twenty farms toured are
selected by reps from the OMAF of-
fice for their "lessons that may be
learned."
The tour has been held annually for
the last twenty years and costs the
members $100, with the remainder of
the expenses including a bus for
travelling paid by OMAF.
Local ag reps from corresponding
counties travelled with the group ac-
ting as soils and crop specialists.
In Huron the group toured the
farms of Ken Flanagan, Dublin;
Whyte Brothers, Seaforth; Don
Henry, Bluevale; and Ray Hogan,
Ashfield Township. In Perth they
visited the farms of David Branch,
Staffa; Don Hawkens, Fullarton;
Player Bros., Gadshill; Bernard Mur-
ray, Embro; John Alderman,
Lakeside and Bob DeBrabandere,
Rannoch.
