Cool damp spring, no rain for most of the summer and then violent storms in some areas. Talk about extremes. The greatest gambler in the world has to be a farmer. Saw a quote the other day- "farming is everybody's bread and butter." How true. There's another one -"how agriculture goes, the nation goes" or words to that effect. The message is clear though. Agriculture is a vital business and what happens on the farm has repercussions across the whole country. Pages full of good reading. Mary Lou Weiser has an article on Grey county gravel - who wants it, where it's going and the implications of its use now and in the future. Speaking of Grey county, advertising manager Bev Brown recently spent three days there, through the Beaver Valley and on up into Owen Sound with The Rural Voice in her hand. She's been giving glowing reports of the beautiful countryside and the friendly people ever since. Willy Keller, a well-known Perth county pork producer submitted an article on his view of the pork industry and how you can survive as a producer. Also there's coverage of various meetings and events throughout The Rural Voice reading area. Using the phone at The Rural Voice office can be very interesting. Try saying "this is The Rural Voice magazine" repeatedly. After awhile the words don't relay well, especially over the telephone. We phoned for some information on embryo transfers and subsequently received an envelope addressed to "The Rolls Royce" magazine. They must have wondered what we were going to do with that information. Published monthly by gunby brown publishers, R.R.1, Dungannon, Ontario, NOM 1RO. Telephone 529-7610 or 335-6118.
