WHAT'S NEW?
fittings are constructed of stainless
steel. Adjustable legs directly support
the inner tank to prevent distortion and
Toss of calibration accuracy.
Polyurethane insulation, foamed in
place between the tank and outer
stainless steel shell adheres to both
walls to seal out moisture and prevent
corrosion. The tank is surrounded by a
continuous blanket of solid, closed -cell
foam which is claimed to be four times
more efficient than fibreglass.
All condensing units are sized and
balanced to specific tanks for high
efficiency, low power demand. Specially
designed agitators provide thorough
blending of milk for efficient cooling and
even mixing of butterfat. A unique
refrigerant flow assures even, thorough
cooling. Positive clean in place (CIP)
sanitizing is easily completed by a
powerful three cycle automatic washer.
NEW CREEP FEED STARTER
A new creep feed/starter feed for pigs,
Co-op Supreme 19% Pig Starter, by
United Co-operatives of Ontario (UCO)
has the advantage of considerable cost
savings to the farmer as well as increased
palatability to pigs.
Results from trials on 650 pigs from
weaning to 23 kg indicate: An average
daily gain of 0.43 kg (0.95 Ib); an average
feed per unit gain of 1.6:1; an average
dollar per unit gain of $ .44/kg ($0.2011b).
Some farms showed even better results
than these averages due to their own
advanced farm management.
Supreme 19 has been formulated to be
used as the "first feed" for nursing pigs.
"Supreme 19 has an advantage where
pigs are weaned at under four weeks of
age," says Jim Wadleigh, UCO's live-
stock feed manager. "Pigs normally are
set back due to the stress of weaning,
but using Supreme 19 both as a creep
feed and a starter feed eliminates a feed
change setback. Pigs are able to main-
tain adequate intake of nutrients and
medication without losing gains." CI
CHLORHEXIDINE ACETATE
In response to teat dip and udder wash
specifications described by North Ameri-
can and European milk producers, Diver-
sey Wyandotte has developed and thor-
oughly tested, an effective new chlor-
hexidine acetate -based teat dip and
udder wash, that offer positive produc-
tion benefits for Canadian dairymen.
New blue Dihexamin Teat Dip, incor-
porates three soothing emollients; lano-
lin, glycerine and sorbitol. Formulated
for low viscosity, this product minimizes
teat dip waste at time of application. The
addition of polyvinyl pyrrolidone, a
film -forming ingredient, helps avoid re-
contamination by leaving a protective
coating on the teat. The companion
udder care product is new green Dihex-
amine Udder Wash.
Trials were conducted on 38 Canadian
dairy farms on these products. ❑
HAY TEDDER
The Weber Lane Hay Tedder speeds up
drying of hay by lifting it off the ground
so air can circulate and dry the hay
quickly. Rubber mounted tines handle
hay gently, yet are strong enough to
resist damage from stones and contact
with the ground.
