Farmers think about "safety" after an accident. Farmers
get rushed doing twelve different things at once, trying to
take shortcuts and sometimes they know they're taking
chances, but they figure next time, things won't be so rush-
ed. Well, they are always rushed.
Farm Safety Week is a reminder to farmers that they have
to think safety all year round. Sixteen Rural Voice adver-
tisers were willing to sponsor the /arm safety ad because
they think safety is important --- be sure to read their
messages on pages 32 and 33.
To help further those messages, we feature Morley
Weatherall, president of the Ontario Farm Safety Associa-
tion, who practises safety measures on his farm in Grey
County on a day-to-day basis.
To write the story on Weatherall we have another Grey
county farmer, Mary Lou Weiser. Mary Lou is a member of
Junior Farmers and works on her father's 100 -acre farm. A
graduate o/ Mount Forest High School, Mary Lou took a
three year photography course at Conestoga in Kitchener
and worked for newspapers in the Hamilton area. We're
pleased to announce she'll be a regular writer for the Rural
Voice.
Our column "Farm Market Perspective" by John DePut-
ter has been moved to the front o/ the magazine. We've
found many of our readers turn to this feature first to get an
immediate overall picture o/ the marketing scene.
Thought you might be interested in knowing that the
Rural Voice is put together from all parts of our coverage
area. First of all the typesetting is done in Huron County at
the Goderich Print Shop. The cover, which is special paper,
is printed in Stratford at the Beacon Herald Fine Print Divi-
sion. The inside of the magazine is pasted up on sheets and
driven to Durham where it is printed at the Durham Chroni-
cle. At this point it all comes together; the cover and the in-
side are stitched (stapled), trimmed to size and mailed out.
So when we say the Rural Voice is in Huron, Perth, Bruce
and Grey, we mean that literally.
The part from Bruce we haven't mentioned would have to
be Gisele Ireland. She's another o/ our top feature writers.
Farmers need a little fun in their lives and Gisele seems to
be able to find it in everyday situations.
Back to the first of this column; just a gentle reminder to
keep safety in mind when you are out there on the job.
Farmers are down to /our per cent o/ the population
already.
