The Rural Voice, 1983-05, Page 11to any ecological agricultural opera-
tion "if it is handled correctly", says
Andres. He has a well constructed
manure storage area, with a liquid
storage tank in the background to
collect the seepage from the yard.
The manure is taken to the field and
dumped in piles, a small quantity of
herbs is added and left to compose
before being spread on the field just
before planting time.
Andres came to Canada from
Switzerland four years ago. He says
not all European farmers practise his
methods but he says you must
remember in Europe, farming has
existed for many more years than
here and consequently, farmers have
had to come up with solutions to
farm better to keep the soil in good
condition for succeeding genera-
tions. Here in Canada, he says,
farmland could still be considered
virgin soil as compared to Europe.
