The Rural Voice, 1983-04, Page 74Huron Federation (cont. from page 72) HCFA - Presidents Remarks. March 1983 - Tony McQuail Huron and Perth Federation held a successful Directors Seminar in February. Ralph Barrie, OFA President, was a speaker and the next day he put in a full morning at CKNX. Afterward, I was driving Ralph out to the Howick-Turnberry Annual Meeting when a pickup truck passed a feed truck on the right shoulder and sheared off the front of Ralph's car. No one was hurt and OFA members on their way to the meeting gave us a hand getting there. We forgot to plug OFA's Farm Family Group Life Insurance program. However, if we'd been stopped about 10 feet further ahead my wife might well be the beneficiary of our policy. I'm glad she's not but I am also glad that our Federation has taken the initiative to develop good group insurance programs for farmers and their families. I have recently had the opportunity to read "Men of the Soil" which traces the history of the Dufferin County Federation of Agriculture. It is an interesting and informative account, helpful in appreciating the problems which farmers have overcome in the past forty years. I believe our history can be a great aid in understanding the present and in setting goals for the future. I think we in the Huron County Federation of Agriculture would find a pamphlet of our history valuable. If you know of the county federation's history please take a few minutes and write it down. If you would enjoy helping with such a project contact me or our secretary, Carol Finch. Not only could such a history help us remember what we have done, it can help remind us of what we should be doing. We are setting up a financial advisory service to help farmers in our area who are having difficulty dealing with their creditors or who would like some assistance in exploring their options. This program will be operated with volunteers and we are looking for people to help. If you would like help from the financial advisory service you can contact Merle Gunby (529-7610). I hope your spring seeding goes well. ADVERTISERS' INDEX Let G.I.P. open this door for you.
