GREY FEDERATION OPPOSES
FARM REBATE PROGRAM
A brief has been prepared by the
Property and Taxation Committee to be
presented to the Hon. Dennis Timbrell.
Grey County will be hit hard by the
$12,000 minimum production. The 1981
Ontario Agricultural Statistics show that
43% of Grey County farms had sales
under $10,000.
Merle Gunby attended the February
meeting and answered many questions
about the Federation Survey paper that
Huron Federation has at their Annual
Meeting. Directors are to check with
local papers re the price to print a
similar paper in Grey County. As well
as being available at the Annual Meet-
ing this paper would be sent to every
farmer on a rural route.
The directors agreed to look after the
Farm Improvement Program for the 1987
Plowing Match.
Doug Gowanlock, fieldman for Grey
and Bruce Federations said that after
March 31st the Extended Health Pro-
gram will be available for 30 days from
the membership date as compared with
the previous 90 days.
The OFA Financial Committee is not
ready for action yet, possibly by the
end of March. In the meantime anyone
needing assistance, contact any mem-
ber of Grey's executive or Merle Gunby,
R.R. 1, Dungannon, NOM 1RO.
Doug Gowanlock will attend a Public
Relations meeting on setting up mall
displays for AgriFood Week.
OFA will supply a County member-
ship list in alphabetical order at a cost
of $50.00. Grey decided to get the list
as it will simplify The Rural Voice list
and be much quicker locating members.
The OFA directors reported the An-
nual Meeting and Convention will be in
the Skyline Hotel on November 28-29-
30.
The tile drainage resolution submitted
by Grey to the last OFA meeting was
carried, but the homestead improve-
ment resolution was lost.
Each ISM is a member of the Cana-
dian Federation of Agriculture, as part
of the membership fee goes to CFA.
Following a discussion on tingle
voltage, it was suggested that the
federation approach hydro re controlling
tingle voltage and compensation for
dairy herds affected.

All the districts have completed their
semi finals in the Public Speaking
contests. The finals were March 10.
Grey Federation held a meeting for
the Ontario Corn Producers Associa-
tion. Five corn growers were present
and 7 memberships were sold. The
regional meeting and the annual meet-
ing will be held later this month.
Seldon Parker, one of the founding
members was present to explain the
Association. Rick Upfold, OMAF soils
and crop specialist, was the guest
speaker.
The Grey County Junior Farmers
Annual Meeting and Banquet was held
in Ayton on Feb. 26. The Federation
trophy went to the Rocklyn Junior
Farmers Broomball team. The Grant
Swieger Award was presented for the
first time. The 4H winner was Pauline
Johnston, R.R. #2, Markdale. The Ju-
nior Farmer award went to Grant Mc-
Murchy, R.R. #2 Clarksburg. Each one
received a keeper trophy as well as a
gift of money. A large plaque will hang
in the OMAF office in Markdale. Ken
Anderson, R.R. #3. Durham is the
representative to the Grey Fed. meet-
ings.
Osprey Federation held their annual
meeting in Feversham Community
Centre with a good attendance. Murray
Clarke, chairman of the OFA Hydro
Committee was the guest speaker. New
directors elected were, Gary Bower,
Brian Mullen, Alex Aldcorn, Danny
Graham, Oscar Tyson, Lew Stale, Bill
Hargreave , Stewart Lemon and Alex
Priddle. A president will be elected
from among these.
The next meeting of Grey Federation
of Agriculture will be March 23-1 P.M.
at the OMAF Board room Markdale.
