The Rural Voice, 1983-03, Page 68HURON FEDERATION, cont'd from page 70) PRESIDENTS REMARKS Things are getting busy at the McQuail farm with the spring burst of lambing and kidding at the barn. I'm feeling enthusiastic about our Federa- tion. We are looking at how we can best serve farmers at the provincial and county level and are developing a number of programs within our county. A partial list of things happening in February and March includes: the Huron -Perth Directors Seminar, Presi- dent Ralph Barrie's visit, several town- ship annual meetings. the Huron Fed- eration MPP's dinner, our monthly meetings and a lobbying presentation to Bob Rae, NDP Leader. This last action was discussed at our February meeting. A motion was made that when meeting with politicians, our members should go as individuals rather than as representatives of our County Federa- tion. This motion was defeated and the discussion indicated that the majority of members at the meeting felt it was important for our Federation to speak as an organization to any and all political leaders who wished to hear from us. At our February discussion of OFA structure, we held small group sessions where members could express their views and also fill out a comment sheet. Members felt that the objective of OFA as a democratically representa- tive farm organization speaking for the majority of farmers in Ontario was sound. They felt the existing structure is a good one for maintaining grass roots involvement and farmer control. It was felt that fees will need to increase to keep OFA effective and that it would be best if increases occurred gradually. In cooperation with several other county federations and CKNX, we are starting an OFA spot on Saturday morning during Murray Gaunt's farm news on CKNX AM. We hope you'll find it has useful information.
