DIRECTORS' SEMINAR A SUCCESS
A good crowd of Bruce and Grey directors were at the
Elmwood Community Centre for the first Directors Seminar on
Dec. 13. Doug Gowanlock, OFA Heldman, was chairman and
kept everything running smoothly, the speakers on time and
the discussion groups almost on time.
The Elmwood ladies had coffee, donuts and an excellent
lunch to keep everyone happy. Hopefully, this seminar will be
held again next year. Gordon Hill told of the first farm groups
back in 1880 working up through the various farm groups to
the present Federation of Agriculture. In depression years
farmers were more willing to join farm groups than in good
years. The Federation of Agriculture didn't always see the
crisis coming. Gordon said the Federation of Agriculture
should change as needed.
Bill Crawford told of the changes in the Extended Health
Plan and the benefits of all the insurance plans offered by the
Federation of Agriculture and showed how to fill out the
application form.
Gerry Krauter spoke on parliamentary procedure and gave
pointers on how to conduct an effective meeting such as
starting and closing on time and having an agenda and a
purpose for the meeting.

members could buy the large pieces of equipment. Sometimes
small things like linch pins were sold to non members.
Cultivator tines are the same price now at ten years ago.
Murray Clarke and Brian Ireland led discussion groups on
the duties and responsibilities of OFA Directors.
The Property and Taxation Committee are drawing up a brief
re the Property Taxation of Farms to be presented to the
Property Committee of OFA.
The Plowing Match Committee are holding a meeting on
December 30. to make plans for the Plowing Convention in
February and to discuss possible sites for the match in 1987.
The hydro meetings have been changed to afternoons for
the winter months which should be better for the farmers
attending. A chairman is to be chosen at the January meeting
at the Nottawasaga Inn. Alliston.
Robert Taylor and I attended the funeral of Ron Jones in
Midland. Ron was a former OFA vice president until illness
forced his retirement.
The Grey Federation Bonspiel will be coming up in
February. If you are interested in entering a rink, contact
Carman Hamill at 794-2805.
Public Speaking will start at the school level right away.
The Federation of Agriculture will again sponsor the semi
final and final levels of the competition. Some township
federations sponsor at the school level. Ruth Hamill is
chairperson of the Education Committee which is responsible
for the Public Speaking.
The next meeting of Grey Federation of Agriculture is
January 26. at the OMAF office in Markdale at 1 p.m.

There will he a vote on the ammendment to
the constitution of the Grey County Pork
Producers.
There will be an election for councilmen,
alternate voting delegates and directors -at -large
[between 2-3:00 p.m.]
Also, there will be a guest speaker.
