OMAF STREAMLINED
Changes have been taking place with-
in the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture
and Food. The ministry has been
restructured, in its own words, "stream-
lined", to create a "forward-looking
organization with a strong planning
component, a more effective manage-
ment system and an efficient grouping
of programs and resources... to be as
responsive as possible to Ontario's $10
billion agriculture and food industry."
The changes mean some established
OMAF programs are now the responsi-
bility of new divisions within the minis-
try, and there has been considerable
shifting of ministry employees.
OMAF is now made up of three major
sections, each headed by an assistant
deputy minister, responsible to deputy
minister Duncan Allan who is in turn
responsible to Agriculture and Food
Minister Dennis Timbrell. Bill Doyle is
the assistant deputy minister of market-
ing and development, Ralph Benson is
in charge of finance and policy, and
Clare Rennie heads technology and
field services.
Both marketing and development, and
technology and field services are each
broken down into a number of divi-
sions, each further broken down into
operating branches, colleges and insti-
tutions that carry out ministry policies.
Four operating branches make up fi-
nance and policy.
The executive directors of OMAF's six
divisions are: Alan Cooper, marketing;
Kenneth McDermid, quality and stan-
dards; Henry Ediger, foodland preserva-
tion and improvement; George Collin,
education and research; David George,
advisory and technical services; and,
Roland Sewell, administration.

warm, friendly, home atmosphere for a
relaxed vacation.
The Ministry of Tourism & Recreation
