A question worth asking. Is crop consulting really needed? Are
there already enough people and places to obtain information to
build greater profitability into your cropping systems? Our
feature article is about a corporation providing a consulting
service for your crops; OMAF's Pat Lynch in Stratford shares his
views and we'd like to hear what you think.
Ontario's wine industry is just starting to receive recognition
and for the festive season, writer Rhea Hamilton visits two
Niagara area wineries and reports back on her findings on page
10. To top that off, The Rural Living section features recipes
using wine.
We're also happy to tell you one of our editorial board
members, Dean Robinson has written a book, not on farming,
but on hockey. "Howie Morenz, Hockey's First Superstar"
published in Canada by The Boston Mills Press, Erin, Ont. is
available at the Oxford Book stores in London & Stratford.
We also have a poem on page 15 written by a Bruce county
farmer who prefers to remain anonymous. While we're on the
subject, The Rural Voice is interested in your stories and poems
of an agricultural nature. We can't promise publication but space
permitting, we'll be happy to print the best. Your name will be
withheld if requested but please send your name and address
along with any submissions.
Lots of new advertisers in this issue; we've grouped some used
equipment ads together on request from some of our readers
looking for something specific in the way of machinery.
Think we can guarantee you a good laugh with Gisele Ireland's
column on page 50 and we have an interesting guest editorial by
Mark Lapping, U of G, on page 40.
Taking the season into account, we would like to wish you a
safe and merry Christmas and a bright and challenging New
Year. Remember, farming can be dangerous to your wealth. Take
care. All
the best.
