Paul Klopp represents Huron
at waste management hearing
The Ontario Waste Management Corporation held public
meetings in London in October to discuss their "Facilities
Development Process Report". Paul Klopp represented the
Huron County Federation of Agriculture.
The Federation commented on many aspects of the report.
Paul pointed out some farmers feel it is important to deal
effectively with the hazardous waste problem. To minimize risks
from transportation, it is important to recycle and reduce waste
substances at their source. For wastes which can't be handled in
this fashion, OWMC treatment facilities should be located close
to the major source of these pollutants. Paul went on to remind
the Waste Management Panel of the Federation's concern for
avoiding impacts on good farm land.
The Federation's brief was well received. The Chairman Dr.
Donald Chant was impressed with the Federation's suggestion
that a portable centrifuge might hold promise as a means of waste
separation and reduction.

If no -why don't you read it?
The Ontario Federation and the Huron County Federation get
involved in a lot of things. What issues are most important to
your family and farm?
What do you think the Federation should be doing about the
issues you listed above?
The Huron Federation has a number of committees which help
prepare programs, study issues areas, participate in hearings and
help the executive. Each year the executive needs to find people
willing to help by serving on these committees. It doesn't take a
lot of time but it is very important if the Federation is to be
effective. Of the following committees please check the ones you
would help with.
—Membership and Member Relations and Insurance Committee,
—Public Relations, —Program (monthly meetings), —Young
Farmers, —Drainage and Soil Erosion, —Properties and Land
Use, —Energy (&Power Lines), —Municipal Liaison, —Survey
Paper, —Absentee/foreign ownership.
