The Rural Voice, 1982-11, Page 26'83 Pork Congress will be 10th held The new executive for the 1983 Ontario Pork Congress were elected at the annual meeting in October. Lorna Small will be President; Dave Ireland and Chris Hills Vice-presidents and Murray Junker is the Recording Secretary. Jean Smelski con- tinues as Secretary -Treasurer and Richard Smelski as the Co-ordinator. This will be the IOth Pork Congress and past president, Bill Nahrgang urged all pork producers in southwestern Ontario to come forward and volunteer to help improve the pork industry in Ontario. Anyone interested in working on a Pork Congress committee can call Jean Smcl4i at 625-8811. The Chairmen of most of the committees were appointed at the annual meeting. Some discussion took place regarding changing the name to the Canadian Pork Congress, but a motion to register this name with the government for possible future use was defeated. The Trade Development Committee of the Ontario Pork Congress has spent $56,353. to date in an attempt to open up overseas markets for Ontario Breeding stock. This money has come from Pork Congress revenues and from various government programs. Chairman Ross Wilkie explained that this money repre- sents a long term investment and commit- ment which will hopefully lead to increased overseas exports from Ontario breeders. Paisley 4-H club member to Manitoba Dan MacGillivray, an active member in several Paisley 4-H clubs, was one of two 4-H members selected from across On- tario to represent the Province at a "Career Conference", in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The conference was sponsored by the Canadian 4-H Council which brings delegates from each province across Canada to search and develop careers in agriculture for Canadian youths. The delegates to the conference were selected for their outstanding contribu- tions and leadership skills demonstrated at Provincial 4-H Camp.
