AgnL ulturc ( anada officials are study- ing the feasibility of establishing a grain elevator in the New Liskeard area of northern Ontario. "There is potential in this area for a grain elevator to dean and dry locally - grown grains as a replacement for expensive grains now shipped in to meet the needs of the local agriculture indus- try," says Eugene Whelan, Agriculture Minister. "Northern Ontario now produces feed grains in excess of local requirements." The feasibility study will examine all the criteria that would be required to make the project a success, including soil management, transportation needs and existing grain handling facilities. Whelan said we should examine every possibility to help areas such as New Liskeard meet their agricultural potential. Northern Ontario is identified in Agricul- ture Canada's Agri -Food Strategy as one of the regions of the country that could be• developed to extend the agricultural production base.
