Change of secretaries
Mary MacDonald, who has been secretary for the Bruce
County Federation of Agriculture for almost two years, has
resigned to help her husband full time on the farm. Although we
are sorry to lose her, we wish her every success in the future.
Mary took great interest in the day to day workings of the Bruce
Federation and made the tasks of the directors much easier with
her efficiency and general competent manner.
The Bruce County Federation welcomes its new secretary,
Mary Harvie. Mrs. Harvie is the mother of four children and she
and her husband, live in Neustadt. Previous to moving to this
town, they farmed in Normanby Township. Mary worked part
time for the Ayton Feed mill and found the experience of working
with farmers helpful in this position. Mary is looking forward to
meeting all the directors of this county organization at future
meetings. Mary Harvie will be in the Hanover office on
Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The fieldman for this
county, Doug Gowanlock can usually be reached at the office on
Fridays.

underwent treatment for his injuries. He lost his right hand below
the elbow and broke the arm above the elbow. The arm is in a
cast, as well as his left arm which suffered nerve and ligament
damage in the accident.
Ken reports that he is recovering and wishes to thank all the
friends and neighbours who helped at home to keep the farm
running and the support given his family at this time. Ken claims
that his room, filled with cards and flowers, is an attraction for
the other patients in hospital with him. Ken hopes to be
discharged from Toronto General the second week in September
and will then enter hospital again to rehabilitate his arms for
mobility.
Harold Poechman, President of the Bruce County Federation
of Agriculture received nasty lacerations to his hand in a
machinery accident at the end of August. It required forty-seven
stitches to repair the damage but Harold reports that his hand is
healing well and he expects to regain full use of it shortly.
Bus Tour cancelled
The bus tour of Bruce County farms has been cancelled due to
lack of participants at the urban level. Reasons varied for the lack
of interest, some weren't interested for economic reasons and
others felt that the time of the year was wrong. At last check,
before the program was cancelled, there were three definite
families signed up for a program that would cover Grey, Bruce
and Wellington counties. These county federations were looking
for 30-40 people per county. Perhaps this could be offered again
with more success.
