Bruce and Grey federations
losing secretary Mary MacDonald
The bad news at the July meeting was the resignation of Mary
MacDonald as secretary. Mary has been a very capable secretary
treasurer and 1 will miss her. Hanover is a long way from my
home and Mary could be depended on to keep everything up to
date.
Peter Mason for Canfarm was present to update the members
on the progress of Canfarm. The chequeing system is also a
record system as is the deposit slip. He also explained the
computer program.
Rural Voice has been sold to Sheila Gunby and Bev Brown.
The deadline for copy is August 9, September 13, and October
11
Doug Gowanlock, fieldman for Grey and Bruce reported on
the membership drives in Grey. With one more days canvas,
chances are slim of having enough members to retain our 4th
region. Many directors were behind in the farm work and
couldn't go out canvassing.
The OFA report was given by Bill Pullen, Murray Clarke and
Clay Schwegler who attended the OFA meeting for Oscar Tyson.
OFA has a membership Incentive Program to run from July 21 to
September 18. Teams must be registered by August 15. The
proposed Property Taxation is on hold and definitely will not
come into effect in 1983.
A letter was received from Gisele Ireland, OFA Public
Relations, outlining plans for a bus tour to different farm
locations. Our Public Relations Committee will meet to make
plans. Also they will deal with the Federation Survey Paper which
should be published prior to the Annual Meeting. The Finance
Committee will meet at the same time.
Drastic action may have to be taken to alleviate our financial
problems. Some townships are still on the grant system even
though we tried to get them on the levy and some townships
aren't paying anything toward Grey's expenses.
Bruce and Grey executives met at Hanover to discuss the
coming hydro corridor. When the Huron Bruce transmission line
was built, a committee was formed after the route was chosen
with one representative from each township involved. Each
farmer involved was asked for a financial contribution to help
with hearings, lawyers, etc. The Committee was voluntary. The
last day for appeals was August 10.
Ruth Hamill read the Education Tape re Agri Bonds by Ralph
Barrie which will be on our local radio stations.
The Regional Meetings will be held in mid-September with East
and North regions having a joint meeting and South East and
South West having a joint meeting. Delegates to the OFA Annual
Convention will be chosen at this time also. The Annual meeting,
banquet and dance is October 23 at the Flesherton Community
Centre. There is no August meeting. The next meeting is
September 22 at the OMAF Board Room, Markdale at 8 P.M.
