Rural women
and Mental Health
A project, "Rural Women And Mental
Health" has been proposed by Ann
Harley, the University of Western
Ontario and Sherri Birtwhistle of the
Canadian Mental Health Assoc.,
(London).
The specific goal and objectives of this
project are to assist rural women to find
positive ways to deal with their own and
their family's mental health needs
through the development of a mental
health network. The provision of self-help
tools and resources, and the sharing of
concerns and problem -solving techniques
will be a major part of the program. The
Women and Mental Health Conference
would be adjusted to meet the specific
needs of rural women in Grey -Bruce and
Huron -Middlesex Counties.
The conference will be held in two
locations, which will adequately serve the
Grey -Bruce area and the Huron -Middle-
sex area. The registration fee for the
conference is low and partial and full
subsidies will be available for those who
fed they need the service but cannot
afford it. Daycare for the two-day
conference is also being considered.
