FARM NEWS
Junior agriculturists:
Grey and Bruce
The Junior Agriculturalist Program is
once again in full force in Grey and Bruce
Counties. This year the program has 28
keen young people working on Host Farms
throughout the twin counties. It is a very
worthwhile program and is designed to
provide a practical learning experience for
young people from non-farm homes who
have a serious interest in agriculture and
who have had no experience working on a
farm.
As a Junior Agriculturalist, the
individual is placed on a selected
commercial farm. where he/she performs
regular activities related to the farm
operation. In addition, the Junior
,Agriculturalist has an opportunity to
develop an appreciation of rural life by
living with a farm family and by
participating in local 4-H. Junior Farmers
and other rural programs/ activities.
This program is very rewarding for the
Junior Agriculturalist and provides them
with a summer experience they will
always remember.
Kincardine resident
wins scholarship
Ernest G. Cerson, a recent graduate of
the two year Agricultural Business Man-
agement Course at Centralia College of
Agricultural Technology, has been award-
ed at $150 scholarship by United Co-oper-
atives of Ontario (UCO). This is one of five
awards presented annually by UCO in its
continuing program of recognizing "ex-
cellence in leadership and responsibility"
among young persons in Ontario.
Ernest. 20, who is known as Casey to his
friends, was the top student in the
agricultural business course. He was the
recipient of three of the major awards
presented annually to the graduating
class. "It was very satisfying to win the
awards after two years of hard work," he
says. At present, he is busy working on a
Kincardine dairy farm as a herdsman.
