The Rural Voice, 1982-06, Page 28THE YOUNG FARMER Luke, my 4-H calf By Cathy Dow 1 belong to 4-H and last year Luke was my 4-H calf. My brother had a calf Bo. Luke was a picky eater. But Bo, boy oh boy, Bo certainly wasn't picky. Luke would only eat pasture and water and Bo. ate anything. The problems were like this with Luke. Luke didn't like the halter at first but he got used to it. The first two weeks we would walk around the stable. The two calves were kept in a pen by themselves so they got lonely. We had to visit them a lot and walk and work with them. We tried to work with them every day and sometimes twice a day. You should have your 4-H calf picked out by May 1. When you receive your record book, you write down how much they eat and how much weight they gain. In the start of the year my calf was the best looking calf. As months went on Bo, my brother's calf got better looking. My calf didn't look too healthy either. At the beginning of the year Luke was nice and tame and wouldn't run away.
