We're pretty sure it's timely. And that you'll come away with
some practical advice you can put to work fast. All In all, we're
pretty proud of this issue of Rural Voice, that focusses on
renovating, fixing up and making low cost changes to your barn,
your office or your house.
If making do with an old barn is your choice (or necessity) you'll
enjoy reading about 13I11 and Sharon Nahrgang's bank barn
reconstruction. Gisele Ireland tells you how to put together a
cheap, efficient farm office and Deane Dixon describes her
farmhouse renovation.
We're also proud of a new Rural Voice feature called Animal
Science. Written by area veterinarians, the column each month
gets down to the nitty gritty of livestock care. This month Dr. Peter
Conlon talks about foaling.
It's about time too that we talked about our monthly guest
column, contributed by someone with something of value to say to
farmers. This month for example, Bruce Shillinglaw offers some
soil conservation ideas. They are timely.
Writer Adrian Vos looks at animal welfare, a hot issue in Europe
and perhaps a possible threat for the future that farmers here
should be aware of.
If all of the above is too much to think about right now, turn
straight to Gisele Ireland on page 29. She chronicles her family's
brush with the Farm Resistance (Assistance) Program.
See you in June with the Kids' issue. Meanwhile, have you
filled out the readership questionnaire in the April Rural Voice?
We'd like to hear from you. Thanks.
