The Rural Voice, 1982-04, Page 19Managing the
farm finances
A course on financial management,
directed by the Centralia College and
funded by the provincial government, has
been very successful. The course has
been running for several weeks, at
Belmore Community Centre every Tues-
day, and has boasted an average
attendance of thirty people.
Each day deals with a different aspect
of managing the farm finances and the
keeping of adequate records. Cash flows
and bookkeeping on an accrual method
were of interest to everyone. Every
farmer was interested in where he was
going financially and what he had done,
and the systems demonstrated had this
information readily available.
The importance of wills and the
different farming operations have been
covered. The information given on joint
tenants and tenants in common and
corporations was valuable in assessing
how to set up wills. The course offers
something for everyone, including how to
do your own tax returns. Once explained,
the whole operation is not as difficult as it
appeared. The course has several days
left with some topics which will help the
farmer be a better financial manager.
