at Huron's annual meeting
Hensall Community Centre ..October 9, 1981
President Gerry Fortune opened the meeting at 7:00 p.m. Grace was said by 2nd
Vice Prealdent Tony McQuail. A delicious pork dinner was served to over 400
persons.
The head table was Introduced by Executive Director Bill Fear. Gordon Hill
Introduced the guest speaker, Peter Hannam. Chairman of the Canadian Wheat
Council who spoke on "Grain Pains" Mr. Hanam was thanked by John Nesbit, a
Regional Director of Huron County area Huron East Central.
The Huron County Award was presented to Russell Bolton, by last year's
recipient, Norm Alexander. Mrs. Bolton was given the floral centrepiece from the
head table by President Gerry Fortune.
Presidents Remarks; President Gerry Fortune commended and thanked the Inner
committees of Huron County Federation. She spoke briefly on the OFA Task Force
now In process at different areas In Ontario... If anyone wishes to speak at an area
hearing they can call the County office or their Regional Director. Gerry then
presented 1,037 letters to Murray Cardiff, MP. for him to deliver them to Pierre
Trudeau. These were replies to letters that Huron County had sent out to each ISM
member protesting the high Interest rates.
Minutes of Last Year's Meeting: passed as printed In the Survey paper on a
rnotlon by Gordon Hill, seconded by Merle Gunby. Carried.
Financial Statement: Moved by John Van Beers, seconded by Tony McQuail that
this be passed as printed In the Survey Paper. Carried.
Fleldman's Comments: This year has been one of the most successful years In
Huron County and OFA. Huron finished OFA's fiscal year Sept. 30/81 with 2139
paid individual service members. OFA reached a record high membership of
25,625.
I would like to compliment Huron County Federatin on a very successful year of
continuing to be the County with the largest individual membership in Ontario.
Perth County Is next to Huron with 1389 members. It has been a pleasure this year
to work with your County Executive and the many committees who were in the
background working for farmers.
Bill named the Committee Chairmen and Committee members and the many
vnlunteers who helped with the Trudeau letters mailing. He congratulated Gerry on
a successful year. Bill congratulated the committees and asked each member of the
committees to stand and be recognized.
Auditors: Lawrence Beane was appointed as Auditor for the next year on a
motion by Art Bolton, seconded.by Tony McQuail. Carried.
Ron White, 1st Vice President of OFA explained the OFA Task Force which Is in
progress now at different centres in Ontario. He explained how much money is
needed to support this feat. The Regional Directors then passed the hat around for
a donation. An amount of $1041.50 was collected and presented to Ron White, the
financial aid Director of the OFA Task Force. Receipts will be given for this
donation If requested from the "Foundation for Rural Living."
Change of Constitution: on a motion by Jim Hunter, seconded by Doug Cameron
that we change our Constitution from 3 Directors -at -Large to 6 Directors -at -Large
Carried.
Elections: Nominations for President were opened:
Nominatinos were as follows: Gerry Fortune, Tony McQuail, John VanBeers, Jim
Hunter, Andy Durand, Hugh Rundle, Art Bolton. Gerry Fortune is our new
President as all others declined their nomination.
Nominations for 1st Vice President as follows: Keith VanCamp, Glen VanCamp,
Tony McQuail, John VanBeers, Jim McIntosh, Jerry Jaretzko, Murray Dawson,
Jim Hunter. 8111 Fear, Andy Durand, Art Bolton. All persons but Tony McQuail

declined their nominations thus niaking Tony McQuail the new 1st Vice President.
Tony spoke on his concern of being elected by acclamation rather than by election.
Before Tony accepted the position of 1st Vice President he read off his terms and
conditions and his beliefs of the action of Federation if he became President. After
completing his talk he suggested to the Chairman of the Elections that he
may re -open the nominations. The chairman declined the offer and asked for a
nation from the floor to re -open nominations. Motion: moved by Bill Wallace,
seconded by John VanBeers that this meeting support Tony McQuail as 1st Vice
President of the Huron County Federation of Agriculture. The motion carried and
he was supported unaimously.

Resolution: #1 read by Jim McIntosh
WHEREAS the Ontario Federation of Agriculture's Individual Service Membership
Fee of $50.00 ($45.00 when on automatic renewal) is not returning sufficient
revenue to maintain the OFA's minimum level of service.
AND WHEREAS many of the County Federation's of Agriculture are in monetary
difficulty.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the ISM fee be increased on Jan. 1/82
to 580.00 (S75.00 automatic) and $15.00 of this annual membership fee shall be
rebated to the members County Federation in the month following the members
payment or renewal.
AND FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that the ISM fee be increased (or decreased)
each January 1 by the percentage change of the Agriculture Price Index, the change
to be in $5.00 amounts only....moved by Jim McIntosh, seconded by Tony
McQuail ...Carried. to be forwarded to OFA. If this subject is discussed at the next
Board of Directors meeting then we would ask that this resolution be brought
forward. If this subject is not to be discussed at a meeting prior to the Convention
then this resolution Is to go to Convention.
Resolution #2....

WHEREAS Ontario Hydro's System proposals for new transmission facilities in
South Western Ontario could have major impacts on prime Agricultural land
AND WHEREAS consolidated assessment hearings will be held on one of these
proposals in January 1982.
AND WHEREAS IT IS IMPORTANT that OFA go on record stating the importance
of preserving our prime agricultural land
THEREFORE FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that the OFA opposes the placement
of major transmission corridors on prime agricultural land
AND FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that OFA instruct its Hydro Committee to
evaluate Hydro's proposals for their impact on prime agricultural land.
AND FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that OFA instruct its Hydro Committee to
participate in the consolidated assessment hearings to lend weight to the
presentations being made to avoid prime agricultural land. Carried.
To be sent to OFA, Toronto...
A letter was read by Tony McQuail to be sent to Hugh MacAuley, Chairman of
Ontario Hydro concerning hydro site lines in South Western Ontario. Motion by
Tony McQuail, seconded by Paul Klopp to send this letter from Huron County
Federation. Carried.
