Farm dealers have problems too, says guest speaker Lobb
Huron County Annual Regional Meetings 1981

The five Regions of Huron County were held under one meeting
this year chaired by Gerry Fortune, President of Huron County
Federation of Agriculture. Gerry called the meeting to order at
8:30 p.m.
Chairman's Remarks: The Regional Directors from Bruce
county and Huron county had a meeting on Monday, August 31,
1981. Results of Meeting: The two counties would draft a letter to
Prime Minister Trudeau to be sent to all ISM s who are asked to
add their comments and return them to Huron and Bruce
Federations offices. Gerry read a draft of the letter, and asked
everyone at the meeting to sign a letter to -night. When your letter

Regional Directors Reports:
Huron -Northwest -Merle Gunby (Ashfield, Colborne, East
Waw., West Waw.). Merle has served on OFA Member Service
Committee for the past 2-3 years. They have been reviewing the
farm safety act and have managed to get farms exempted from the
Act. Merle read a press release from OFA re Whelan's an-
nouncement about Farm Credit Corporation starting in the fall of
'81 to make low cost loans available to farmers. OFA Executive
and staff have been working hard all summer for farmers and have
finally managed to get to meet with McEachern. Merle read a
second press release about who will serve on the OFA Task Force:
Everett Biggs, John Wise, Murray Gaunt, Barbara Shandt
(Consumer Rep.), Del O'Brien. They will be holding various
meetings in farming communities around Ontario. Interest rates
and low commodity prices were discussed, also a possible rise in
membership fees was discussed.
Huron Northeast - Gerry Fortune (Howick, Grey & Turnberry)
Gerry commented on County activities and committee work in
Huron county. Gerry thanked all who have worked hard on
committees and those who have gone on membership drives.
Wellington County asked for a copy of the Huron Survey.
Huron East Central - John Nesbit (Morris, McKillop, Hullett)
As a new Director John has been very impressed by the amount of
work covered at a Directors meeting and by the excellent work of
the committees. John reviewed the OFA Health insurance plan,
coverage, cost to member. He reminded the members that there
are a few changes in the life insurance plan coming. In order to
enroll for the life insurance plan an ISM must be on automatic
membership.
Huron South - Andre Durand - (Hay, Stephen, Usborne) Andy
said he has not had one call from any member about high interest
rates. There is a new farm machinery agency (agent) OFMA,
Alvin Becker, Hay Township to serve south Huron.
Huron West Central - Jim McIntosh (Tuckersmith, Stanley,
Goderich) Jim spoke on the Farm Property Tax Situation. The
Ontario government has been working with the OFA on a proposal
and have come up with a plan which is slightly different from what
was announced in the spring. The new proposal will appear in
