The Rural Voice, 1981-10, Page 47PERTH COUNTY PORK PRODUCERS' NEWS Notes from the O.P.P.M.B. 1. Feed Contracts - Board Policy: The O. P.P.M.B. statistics for 1980 show that 5.24% of the hogs marketed in Ontario are settled for on a joint name basis and 1.84% (371) of the active registered producers receive their settlements in this way . These represent various forms of "contracts" between the producer and a feed company, equipment dealer or entrepreneur. If the registration is in the name (primarily) of the contractor, settlements are made to him. This may cause complications in regard to federal stablization payments and other subsidies. The O.P.P.M.B. position on contracting takes into con- sideration the producer's long term interest and the legality of the situation. Policy was established by the Directors in 1972. 1. The Board discourages, in general, the practice of contracting as a source of credit or as a risk sharing measure. 2. The Board advises producers against signing any contract which includes any government subsidy as a part of the receipts. 3. The Board warns producers that forms of contracts furnished by the supplier are drafted for the protection of the contractor. 4. The Board advises any producer who would contract to have the contract reviewed in terms of interest rates, feed cost surcharges, service charges and other conditions. 2. O.M.A.F. Appointment: Garnet Norrish, Swine Specialist from the Guelph area, has been appointed to the position of Associate Director and Assistant to H.E. McGill, Livestock Commissioner.
