The Rural Voice, 1981-10, Page 21Bruce women form groups
Women in Bruce, Grey and Huron counties might be interested
in learning about two vital women's groups in Bruce County.
One is the Port Elgin Committee for Women's Studies, founded
seven years ago. One of its main concerns is the continuing
education of women, but it has also done research on social issues,
such as the need for a crisis centre in Bruce County. For
workshops and dinner meetings top speakers on a variety of topics
are brought in. At the September 18th meeting at the Lido
Chinese Restaurant in Port Elgin the speaker was Mary Ann
McCarthy, Associate Professor of Education at York University,
who spoke on "From Roles to Relationships." Two members of
this group, Ann Judd and Barb Scollick, were instrumental in
setting up the Conference for Rural Women held in London last
May. Anyone wanting more information on the group can contact
Donna Reeb, Box 11, R.R. 3, Tiverton, NOG 2T0 (368-7252) or
Mary Taus, Box 1256, Southampton, NOH 2L0 (797-5571).
The other Bruce group is the "Planning Committee for Rural
Women". It is not the intention of this group to form another
women's organization as they feel there are excellent women's
groups already in existence. The aim is to help women to gain
skills (public speaking, letter writing, logical thinking, lobbying,
etc.) and self-confidence and then encourage them to attend farm
meetings where they feel they can make a contribution. They are
presently organizing a one -day workshop on Stress Management
on Saturday, November 7th at Paisley (see Box).

she will discuss "Coping with stress by goal -setting,

This is an excellent opportunity for men and women to
