One of the annual highlights of the
agricultural scene in Ontario is the
International Plowing Match and Farni
Machinery Show. This year, Simcoe
County is hosting the event on farms at

Crown Hill near Barrie. Dates for the
1981 event are Tuesday, September 29
through Saturday. October 3.
The Gordon Atkinson Farm at R.R. 1,
Barrie, seven miles north-east of the city
has been carefully managed to provide a
firm. dry area for the 400 hectares set
aside for the tented city, plowing compet-
itions, demonstrations and parking areas.
Members and affiliates of the sponsor-
ing Ontario Plowmen's Association and
the Simcoe County Local Committee are
working intensively to co-ordinate this
massive showcase of agricultural tech-
nology. popular among both rural and
urban visitors.
Highlight of the event is Tented City.
Hundreds of interesting and informative
exhibits including the latest in farm
technology, machinery, livestock. seed.
chemicals, consumer products. and
automobiles give farmers and consumers
an opportunity to do some comparison
shopping in an atmosphere of fun and

The Hensall District Co-operative Inc.
of Hensall, was fined a total of $800 in
Goderich Provincial Court in June after
they were found guilty on four charges
under the Weights and Measures Act.
The charges arose from Consumer
and Corporate Affairs Canada inspections
on September 12th and 15th. 1980 that
revealed the co-operative weighed pur-
chases from local farmers on an automa-
tic dump scale which was marked "not
legal for trade" and did not provide a
legal standard of accuracy. The co-
relaxation. Other exhibits of interest are
steam engines, horse drawn wagons,
antique and historical displays, banks,
variety shows and County exhibits which
will give visitors a taste of Simcoe
county's past and future.
Of special interest to women will be the
daily ladies' program which features
cooking demonstrations, fashion shows,
crafts. quilt making and mdch more.
The plowing competitions are open to
contestants from all over the world. More
than 200 expert plowmen will compete for
540.000. in prize money. Other events of
interest are the horse-drawn plowing and
the special "Queen of the Furrow"
competition.
There is something for everyone at the
International with exhibits, parades,
demonstrations, a children's midway
and over 60 food concessions to satisfy

HOW IT WORKS;
20" disc. blades, mounted on individual pivots, are
rotated by hydraulic motors to cut bean plants off
below ground surface. Each pivot -mounted section
rests on two depth wheels. Two or three windrows
are produced, depending on the number of blades.
