Rural Voice is right up to date this month with a story on
Ontario Hydro's proposed new routes to bring another power
line south from the Bruce.
Many area farmers question the timing of the release of the
proposed routes. and of meetings that will be held to discuss
them and Rural Voice talked to both concerned farmers and
Hydro spokesmen.
Recent tough economic times have spawned new discussions
of old issues like supply management and Rural Voice was in the
audience to get producer reaction at a Harriston meeting on beef
supply management and a Brucefield meeting where pork
producers questioned their provincial representatives.
When it comes to protecting farmers and their products, the
European Economic Community has it all over anything that
exists on this continent. Rural Voice writer Adrian Vos outlines
some of the European solutions, starting on page 11.
It's probably especially important when times are tough that
we keep talking to each other and so we think Rural Voice
readers will be interested in a report on the upcoming conference
for rural women at Centralia College and in this month's guest
column. on communications skills. by Don Cameron, a .faculty
member at that same school.
This month, freelancer Susan Glover has interviewed those
hard working people at the Grey County OMAF office... watch
for future stories from Bruce and Huron ag. offices.
As well Rural Voice has special sections for the young farmer,
the rural family and our columnists Keith Roulston, Gisele
Ireland and Adrian Vos.
Next month Rural Voice will look at a commodity that's making
a real comeback in western Ontario and talk to some new owners
of what used to be a staple type of livestock in the area. sheep.
Also, we'll have a profile of an unusual Perth area ,farmer, Joe
Moss and lots more on the people who make the news in farming
on our area.
See you in September!
