Huron Federation Meeting
Blyth Public School
Attendance: Over 85 people attended the monthly meeting on
Thursday, March 5/81. In the absence of President Gerry
Fortune, 1st Vice -President John VanBeers chaired the meeting.
The meeting opened at 8:30 with the approval of the agenda on
a motion by John Nesbit. seconded by Les Caldwell. Carried
Approval of the last month's meeting minutes as printed in the
Rural Voice was accepted on a motion by Dave Drummond,
seconded by Brenda McIntosh. Carried.
Vice -President John Van Beers made announcements of the
Planning Meetings and dates and place for East Wawanosh
Township. also for the Annual Meeting of the Soil Conservation
Society of America, along with a seminar on Acid Rain to be held
at Cambridge on Fri.. March 20. 1981 at the Grand River
Conservation Authority.
Ray Hanna spoke briefly on a Soil and Water Conservation
Club he is proposing to start in Huron County along with help
from Huron County Federation and OMAF. This group would
come under a 4-H Leaders Club classification.
John Nesbit. an ISM Director for HCFA talked on the new
Health Plan Huron County Federation has taken on with the
Co-operators Insurance. The rates remain the same $63.00 per
family and $26.00 for single. for the same coverage. This new
plan however. has 3 limitations to it: $500 drug limit per year:
$1000 nursing care per year: and $5000 total per year.

At 9:00 p.m. the meeting was turned over to the Young
Farmers Committee who were hosting this portion of the
meeting, a panel discussion on Problems of Young Farmers and
Starting Farmers Today. Bob Coleman. chairman of the
committee introduced the guest napelists. Art Lawson, Assoc.
Ag. Rep. trom Perth County, Bill Bearss, from Royal Bank in
London, Bill Gunn, a CA from Price and Waterhouse Company in
London, and Lorne Luther, a farmer of 30 years and a past active
member of the National Farmers Union from the Lucknow area.
Each guest made an approximate seven minute presentation
following by a very lively question and discussion session.
Gifts of cheese and maple syrup were made to each gentleman
at the conclusion of the meeting.
Next monthly meeting to be held at Grey Central School, Grey
Twp. at Ethel. Topic of discussion to be FOREIGN/ABSENTEE
OWNERSHIP 8:30 p.m. Representatives from University of
Guelph will be present with details of the Huron County Study on
this topic.

Gunby. 10:50 p.m.
