Selling memberships need right approach
The regular February directors' meeting was held in Markdale
at the OMAF office.
Wayne Robertson of the OFA membership committee was
guest speaker, and gave pointers for selling memberships. The
right approach can mean the difference between selling and
turning off a customer. He also warned farmers to abide by the
building code and safety rules when building a new structure.
A nomination was made for the Tommy Cooper award.
The annual bonspiel. sponsored by the federation and
co-ordinated by Carmen Hamill and Bruce Saunders, was a
success.
Public speaking contests are in full swing. The federation
sponsors the semi finals and finals, giving a trophy to the winner
and cash prizes to all others.
The North Grey Region sponsored an all -candidates meeting at
Chatsworth.
A meet -the -members dinner will be held in Rocklyn
Community Centre April 4. A limited number of tickets will be
available to each township.
Fieldman Bob Leslie, reporting on memberships, stated we
are getting closer to our goal of 1100 which will qualify Grey for
another regional director.
Ruth Hamill gave her report of the OFA meeting. The collapse
of the Co-op Health services has been a concern to many people,
but now that Co-operators has taken over the health insurance
and information is more available, hopefully everyone will
continue to insure with the new company and many more will
sign up.
A reply was received from Diane Harkin OFA public relations
committee, concerning livening up the convention. One
suggestion from the directors was to break into discussion
groups of 10, thereby giving more people a chance to speak.
The insurance committee met with Barry Stewart of the
Co-operators to review the office insurance, bond insurance and
increase the number of directors covered by the plan. Mitchell
Lundy reported to the directors meeting and received approval
for the increases.
The next directors meeting will be March 25 at 1 p.m. at the
OMAF board room, Markdale.

Robert Steel experiences farming in Costa Rica
In case you've missed him for the past two months, Rural
Voice's Grey correspondent. Robert Steel, has been working and
visiting in Costa Rica in Central America. Robert is a member of
Canadian Executives Overseas and his involvement has taken
him to developing countries to provide qualified assistance.
Robert writes farming in Costa Rica is a year-round enterprise,
with farmers often harvesting three crops a year, which should
open a few envious eyes.
We are looking forward to having Robert's by-line back on our
pages and perhaps we will have him share his recent experiences.
