Groenestege elected president
THE NEW EXECUTIVE
The County directors met on January
29 to elect a new slate of officers. The
new executive is: President -John Groen-
estege, RR 1, Sebringville; 1st Vice -
Robert Stephen, R.R. # 1, St. Marys; 2nd
Vice -Ray Stock, RR#1, Stratford; Secret-
ary -George Lupton, RR# 2, Stratford;
Treasurer -Robert De Brabandere, RR 1,
St. Marys; Past President -John Lichti,
RR#1, New Hamburg.
WEANER PIG COMMITTEE
Another matter on the agenda was
the formation of a County Weaner Pig
Committee. A number of weaner pig
producers in the province feel they need a
separate organization to serve their
special interests and give them a voice in
economic decisions like the distribution of
subsidies and in possible talks of supply
management.
The OPPMB is cooperating by setting
up a provincial weaner pig committee,
which in turn is to be supported by county
committees. So far Perth County pro-
ducers have shown little enthusiasm
judging by the sparse turnout at the
founding meetings.
For a start Directors Robert Mitchell,
RR#2 Dublin and Ken Aitcheson, RR#3
Stratford have been elected Chairman
and Vice Chairman of the county
committee with a further three persons to
be added to the committee from
interested weaner men.
The OPPMB and the county association
give their support; however the success
of the committee will depend on the
participating of the weaner producers. It
may be mentioned here again, that
weaner producers always have been
represented by the OPPMB and regard-
less of the success of a separate
organization can continue to rely on that
representation.
OPPMB ANNUAL MEETING
The annual meeting of the OPPMB
will be held on Wednesday, March 18,
and Thursday, March 19 at the Constella-
tion Hotel, Dixon Rd. Toronto. All
producers may attend, however only
