The Rural Voice, 1981-02, Page 40Votuce eacotev al 1490teadeute FIVE RESOLUTIONS FROM BRUCE ANNUAL The Bruce County Federation of Agriculture's Annual Meeting was held in Elmwood Community Centre on Wednesday, December 3, 1980. Johannes Jarvalt was guest speaker and spoke on "The Role of a Lawyer in the OFA." Some of his responsibilities were to provide legal advise for 1 SM's and to assist lawyers in legal cases. Mr. Jarvalt proposed a question to the audience "How do I prevent or notify people about Trespassing." It turned into a very informative discussion. Minutes: Moved by Giselle Ireland, seconded by John MacAuley that the minutes be approved as written. Carried. Financial Statement: Moved by Mary MacDonald, seconded by Ray Fischer that the financial statement be accepted as printed. Carried. Auditor's Report: Moved by Jim Powers. seconded by Jim Jacklin that the auditor's report be accepted after corrections are made. Carried. Moved by Jim Jacklin. seconded by Albert Simpson that Duncan McCallum will be the auditor for next year. Carried. Duncan McCallum was presented with a gift for services rendered. Commodity Boards Report: Mark MacAuley gave a report from the Ontario Pork Producers Marketing Board. Frank Murray gave a report from the Cattlemen's Association. Elections: Elections were conducted by Bob Leslie. Grey Bruce fieldman. Moved by Frank Murray, seconded by Wayne Robertson that the nominations would not be received by secret ballot. Carried. Nominated for President were: Harold Poechman, Borden Fenton and Don Ahrens. Moved by Wayne Robertson. seconded by Doug Jones that the nominations be closed. Carried. Don Ahrens and Harold Poechman declined. Borden Fenton is the President. Nominated for 1st Vice President were: Harold Poechman, Don Ahrens and Wayne Robertson. Moved by Arnold Misch. seconded by Don Johnson that nominations be closed. Carried. Wayne Robertson and Don Ahrens declined. Harold Poechman is the 1st Vice President. Nominated for 2nd Vice President were: Giselle Ireland, John MacAuley, Albert Simpson and Wayne Robertson. Moved by Jim Jacklin, seconded by David Keith that nominations be closed. Carried. Albert Simpson and Giselle Ireland declined. Moved by Jim Jacklin, seconded by Harold Peochman that the scrutineers be Ron Jones, Bessie Saunders and Gerry Fortune. The results were John MacAuley as 2nd Vice President. Moved by Don Johnson, seconded by Doug Stanley that the ballots be destroyed. Carried. Resolutions: The following resolutions were placed at the meeting: 1 Whereas the Ministry of Natural Resources is using display material which is outdated and would lead hunters to believe land which is not posted is open for trespass, therefore be it resolved that OFA petition the Ministry of Natural Resources to update their display material to comply with the newTrespass Act and Owners Liablility Act. Moved by Dave Keith, seconded PG. 38 THE RURAL VOICE/FEBRUARY 1981 by Ted Fishcer. Amendment -- "trespass" be changed to "entry." Moved by Eldon MacKinnon, seconded by Wayne Robertson. Carried. 2. Whereas the Ministry of Transportation Local Office will not accept cheques unless they are certified, and whereas the amount of cash involved for purchasing vehicle licenses is more than the average person wishes to carry and more than licensing offices wish to have on hand. therefore be it resolved that OFA petition the Ministry of Transportation to make personal cheques acceptable at Ministry Local offices. Moved by Wayne Robertson, seconded by Eldon MacKinnon. Amendment --"and more than licensing offices would like to have on hand" be omitted. Moved by Evan Keith, seconded by Don Johnson. Carried. 3. Whereas the quality of an organization such as ours is judged by the quality of its constitution and how closely it adheres to that constitution, and whereas our constitution is not very well defined in some areas such as "formation of committees." "election and or appointment of directors," "fees for member organizations," "election rules for officers." Therefore be it resolved that the Bruce County Federation of Agriculture form a constitutional Amendment Committee to study these areas and report back to our 1981 annual meeting with amendments to our constitution and or a written report. Moved by Don Johnson, seconded by Jim Powers. Amendment -- "executive directors" be added before Bruce County Federation of Agriculture. Moved by Eldon MacKinnon, seconded by Doug Jones. Carried. Amendment -- delete first "whereas." Moved by Giselle Ireland. seconded by John MacAuley. Carried. 4. Whereas the beaver population has increased dramatically and are a real problem in damming waterways, therefore be it resolved that we ask the Ministry of Natural Resources to take appropriate action to resolve this problem. Moved by Frank Murray. seconded by Evan Keith that it will be passed for its principle and bring it up at the next directors meeting. Carried. 5. Whereas when the Canadian Government introduced the Grain Embargo against Russia, the Canadian Government promised that farmers would be protected and reimbursed for any losses due to the said embargo, and whereas the embargo has caused during its imposition severe distortion to the grain markets and caused financial loses to grain farmers and also has disrupted livestock production. Therefore be it resolved that the OFA should press the Federal Government for compensation due to farmers who have suffered under the Russia grain embargo. Moved by Wayne Robertson. seconded by John MacAuley. Carried. New Business: There should be a letter of appreciation sent to all the organizations that donated door prizes. The ones who donated the prizes were: Co-operators, OFMA, Twin County Feeds, Tara United Cooperators, Elmwood, Gay Lca Foods, Mac Donnell Fuels, Sprucedale Agrimart, Tara, Union Carbide.
