Bruce students win at Farm Show
The London Farm Show ran from March
4th to March 7th with an impressive
showing as usual.
It was as usual crowded with displays of
farm machinery and equipment. Men go
there to daydream about when they can
afford to own some of the machinery
displayed and some go to get ideas of how
they can remodel existing equipment to
newer specifications.
It serves as a guide to those who practice
advanced methods of farming by showing
what is available but with farmingin the
shape it is at the present moment the price
tags are horrendous.
The art displays were down this year. A
super selection of organizational displays
last year with superior craft work was
missing this year. Even the baking seemed
less this year:
There was a very interesting art display
of posters titled. "Helping on the Farm"
with what seemed like about 100 entries. A
Bruce County School, Hillcrest Public
School took a lot of the prizes.
1st prizes went to Laura MacDonald,
Randy Stanley, Karen Whytock, Rick
Stanley and Shannon MacPherson.
2nd Prizes went to Laurie McPherson,
Melody Ireland, Darryl Fischer, Stacey
Martin, Marie Frieburger, Denise Ireland,
Sherry Brindley, and Kathy Cook.
3rd prizes went to Lindell Cross, Rhonda
McPherson, Debbie Lamont , Debbie
Edgar and Verna Riel.
All these students from Hillcrest deserve
a lot of credit for the originality and talent
displayed in these posters. Their teachers
have a right to be proud of their work.
Ireland award is for
outstanding contributions
Some time ago the Directors of Bruce
County received a letter asking them to
send in applications for the Brian & Gisele
Ireland Award. This award is to be
presented to a person in the county of
Bruce who has made outstanding
contributions to agriculture. The
nominations can come from organizations
within Bruce County also.
