The Rural Voice, 1980-03, Page 40Perth County Pork Producers Ontario Pork During the annual meeting on Jan. 18, a new slate of directors was elected, almost half of them newcomers. This shows an increased interest in the work of the association, as there were a good number of volunteers to serve as directors allowing some oldtimers to drop out. The total number of directors for Perth County has been increased to 27 out of a total of appr. 250 council men for all of Ontario. The number is based both on the number of pigs shipped from the county and the number of registered producers. The directors represent the producers as delegates to the annual and semi-annual meetings of the provincial board in Toronto. In addition the directors are responsible for conducting the affairs of the county association. They work on various committees, organizing information meetings, promotional programs, social get-togethers and sponsor junior barrow shows and 4-H competitions. Many directors volunteer to help on the well known Pork Producers Barbeque, promoting the use of pork as a snack food at country fairs, picnics and many community barbeques in and outside the county. The directors meet appr. eight times a year. Producers may attend the meetings but have no vote. A producer may bring to the attention of his township director any matter he likes up to discussion. If a producer wishes to make a personal presentation at a directors° meeting, he should inform the president or secretary in writing to allow the president to be prepared and to put the item on the agenda. The names and addresses of the directors are given below. New executive The directors met on Jan. 24 to elect a new executive and to discuss plans for the coming year. The previous executive was returned for the traditional second year except for the treasurer, who declined.
