The Rural Voice, 1980-02, Page 36The Young Farmer Milier heads Huron 4-H BY WILMA OKE Barry Miller of R.R.3, Exeter, was elected president of Huron County 4-H Club leaders association at the annual meeting in Clinton. He succeeds Glen McNeil of R.R.6, Goderich. Other officers elected were Ken Mewhinney of R.R.1, Lucknow First Vice - President, and John Van Vliet of Brussels, Second Vice -President. Maurice Hallahan of R.R.1, Belgrave was re -appointed Secretary -Treasurer. He was given an increase in the yearly stipend paid him. Last year there were 214 boys and 138 girls enrolled in the Huron 4-H Club program, which is one of the strongest in the province. These members, who range in age from 11 to 20 years participated in 30 clubs and averaged 94 per cent completion rate. The establish ment of a new club this year is being investigated - - a 4-H civics club. The members would study the different levels of government and the responsibilities of each. The pre 4-H club member program is successful in Huron and will be continued. To encourage participants in the club press reporter's contest, the first place winner will receive a trophy and the runners-up,some type suitable recognition. The 4-H gate sign club continues to draw many participants. This club was initiated by Huron in the province and Ontario is the only province with the club. The exchange visits will continue: slated for this year is the return visit to Illinois Barry Miller president Huron County 4-H Association some time in July. The Illinois 4-H club members visited Huron last summer. In the future preference is *o be given to visits with other provinces in Canada. A visit to British Columbia may be arranged for this summer.
