Eric Clarke from Conestoga College will be the instructor for a
Huron Federation of Agriculture sponsored course on "Effective
Public Speaking" to be given in Clinton at the OMAF office on
Jan. 26, Feb. 2 & 9, 1980.
This will be the third year, Mr. Clark has given us this course.
An exceptional speaker himself, Mr. Clark can put everyone at
their ease and show them how to express themselves better. Last
year 15 participants enjoyed the three Saturdays they spent with
Mr. Clark.

Membership Priority Item
-OFA Board Meeting

Toronto: In order to maintain the effectiveness of OFA as a
spokesman for the farming industry, the Board of Directors
decided to make membership a priority concern in the months
ahead. OFA has set up a membership committee and a
resolution was passed requesting the county organizations to
make membership recruitment a priority.
In brief: Frank Wall, 2nd vice-president, reported that an in
depth survey had been carried out by a Purdue University group
at OMAF's request, which showed a good potential for
establishing a tomato paste industry in Ontario. The Ontario
Fruit and Vegetable Growers Marketing Board (OFVGMB) are
investigating further.
Al Kormos was recently elected chairman of Agricultural
Publishing Co. Ltd. replacing Ron White. The company is owned
by OFA and OPPA and publishes "Farm and Country".
Grant Wallace, newly appointed OFA dire .:tor of insurance,
presented some comparable notes of other health plans.

OFA standing committees were appointed. Members from
Huron county appointed to committees: John Van Beers, Rural
Municipal Liason; John Hazlitt and Jim McIntosh,
Environmental, Gordon Hill and Gerry Fortune, Membership;
Andy Durand and Merle Gunby, Member Service.
A resolution from Huron County, urging the government not to
promote a policy of permitting retirement severances in rural
areas, was passed.
Another resolution urging the government not to sell or
dismantle any part of Petrocan was approved.
A resolution on property tax reform, urging the government to
develop an assessment policy that would be fair and equitable to
farmers was given approval.

Grey federation holds annual
"Man's humanity to man," the un ited effort to put Oxford
County back on it's feet after the tornado, was the topic of Ken
Pearce, chairman of the Woodstock Disaster Fund, speaking at
the Grey township annual banquet held at Cranbrook on Dec.11.
The Woodstock Disaster Fund was manned by volunteers and
donations reached a total of $31/4 million. This will be divided
among 400 people; and Mr. Pearce said that yesterday (Dec. 10)
the funds were being disper sed to those people, covering about
90 percent of their loss. Eighty per cent of the funds would be
going to the rural community.
Ross Veitch was acclaimed president, replacing retiring Bill
Mann; Dale Knight was elected 1st Vice -President and Jim
Cooper is the Secretarv-Treasurer.
Directors appointed were Ross Hemingway, Herman Plas,
John Boneschansker, Max Demaray, Garry Earl, Ross
Stephenson, Dale Knight, Murray Crawford, Eric Prescott,
James Cooper, John Baan and AICA Cullen. One more director
will be appointed at a future date.
