Horse and wagon theatre
to Western Ontario
Towns, cities and villages in the
heartland of Southwestern Ontario will
play host to the Caravan Stage Company,
a performing troupe travelling the
countryside in hand-crafted, Clydesdale -
drawn wagons this summer.
The group, which is presented by
Toronto's NDWT Co., is a unique
collection of open-air theatre performers
from Armstrong, British Columbia.
At a pace of twelve miles a day, eleven
Clydes, escorted by eight outriders and
shotgun riders responsible for the safety
of the wagons and performers, are
currently making a trek (sixteen weeks in
all) which takes them from Niagara -on -
the -Lake (started June 1), across the
province to the depths of Huron County at
Seaforth and Clinton, and finally on to
Toronto in September.
The troupe has two different per-
formances. The first, Tabootenay, is an
afternoon carnival full of tales of fantasy
and romance and includes story telling,
wagon rides, forge displays, jugglers,
tumblers, minstrels and 'Dr. Heart's
Perennial Wonder Show'.
The second is Horseplay, a musical
farce performed under the stars. "An
unlikely outlaw, Grandma Mulvaney and
her even more unlikely partners in crime,
four singing and dancing horses, Lincoln,
Chevy, Dodge and Ford," the Company
says, "take on local authorities,
meatpackers," and assorted others.

A new look for
Orchestra London
Music in London will have a new
name, new look and new sound is music
for the 1981-81 season.
Orchestra London Canada, previously
London Symphony Orchestra, has chang-
ed its name to emerge from the shadow of
its namesake in England. A more
singular identification has become neces-
sary with the orchestra reaching wider
and more diverse audiences, and having
recording and touring as its objectives.
The new look will be in the logo
showing the new name.
The new sound results from the
engagement of Vienna -born Alexis Haus-
er, who will take command of the podium
this fall as Orchestra London's Music
director and conductor. The 33 -year-old
Hauser, an internationally recognized
composer and musician, has already won
enthusiastic approval of symphony pat-
rons in prior appearances in the city.
"Well known for featuring the
finest fumiture and accessories,
selection and values available in
South-Westem Ontario."
