Friday night fish fry
Bayview Tourist Tavern and Dining Lounge offers a friendly atmosphere as well as good fish.
The place is no secret. Anyone who
drives along 21 Highway has read the
sign.
It's Friday night, fish fry time at the
Bayview Tourist Tavern and Dining
Lounge. The place. homey, pine panelled
with lots of memorabilia around, is full
and it's hopping.
There's an "it's Friday night and we're
off for the weekend" mood, and it's
catching. So a group of us sit and sip our
beers, not wanting or missing speedy
food service.
Obviously a lot of people are in on the
Bayview's secret: a friendly relaxing
atmosphere, a come -as -you -are dress
code and very, very, good fish. But we
came in about 7:30, after the big line up
rush and had no trouble getting a table
for six.

And the fish. It's perch, fresh caught,
moist and sweet, deep fried in a thin,
crisp batter. With home made french
fries, cole slaw, and great home baked
rolls, the four pieces of perch are a
bargain at S4.75.
To say the Bayview has a way with
perch is an understatement. One diner
was so thrilled that she ordered a second
helping, "Just the fish, please."
Although specialties are seafood (the
butterfly shrimp at $7.50 were very good)
the Bayview has a full menu. . .steak.
ribs, beef liver, chicken, sausage, and
pork chops, priced from $6.25 to $9.50.
But on Friday night, why would you want
anything but perch? There's often a salad
bar and lobster and crab legs are
available too.

"PERSONAL SERVICE IS OUR PLEASURE"
We tried the Bayview's homemade
apple crisp ($1.50) for dessert and it was
better than mother used to make. Drinks
too are reasonably priced but we didn't
really need the Spanish coffee at $3.25.
For years we've driven by the Bayview,
in a hurry to get to Grand Bend, Port
Huron or somewhere. Now we know
enough to plan to be in the neighbour-
hood at meal time. And on Friday night,
for the fish fry. it's worth a special trip.
The Bayview doesn't serve breakfast
but does have a Sunday brunch 11 a.m. to
2 p.m.
