Martha Henry will
play in King Lear
Martha Henry will join the company
of King Lear in this season's revival of
the Stratford Festival's 1979 produc-
tion.
Miss Henry will appear as Goneril
this year. She has been the leading lady
in many Stratford productions in the
past, including last season's Love's
Labour's Lost, Henry IV, Part II and the
North American premiere of Edward
Bond's The Woman.
This year the actress directed the
Third Stage production of Brief Lives.
King Lear will once again star Peter
Ustinov as Lear, with William Hutt as
the Fool, Douglas Rain as Gloucester,
Jim McQueen as Kent and Richard
Monette as Edmund.
A newcomer to the production is
Lynne Griffin as Cordelia. She last
appeared at Stratford in 1975 in
Fellowship at the Third Stage. In the
past two years Miss Griffin has received
critical praise for her portrayals of Ellie
in Heartbreak House at the Shaw
Festival, Marianne in Tales From the
Vienna Woods at Vancouver Playhouse
and Charlotte in Strawberry Fields for
the Toronto Free Theatre.
LSO will tour
small towns
The London Symphony Orchestra is
planning once again this season to bring
its high quality entertainment to smaller
centres in southwestern Ontario where
there is little opportunity to experience
such performances.
Many of the LSO's musicians, the
music director and guest artists are
internationally known.
Previously the orchestra has per-
formed in cities and towns such as
Goderich, Listowel. Tillsonburg, St.
Thomas, Stratford, Chatham and
Hanover.
Plans are in the works for per-
formances in Wingham and Seaforth as
well.
