Village Squire, 1980-03, Page 16Stratford's Farmers Market,
a busy place
even in winter
Where do you go in the middle of March for bright and
fragant potsful of forced bulbs like tulips, hyacinths and
daffodils, homegrown parsnips and fresh -out -of -the -oven lemon
cofee cake?
If you're within driving distance and it's Saturday morning,
you head for Stratford and its Farmers' Market, held from 7a.m.
to noon at the fairgrounds in the city's northwest corner.
While the small arena which houses the market is full of good
things to eat and admire, all the regulars tell you it's much
bigger and better in the summer when stalls selling fresh
produce move outside. Several butchers inside sell prime meat
and homemade sausage, winter and summer.
The sights, sounds and smells are absolutely free, but take a
shopping bag and some of your grocrey money....you won't be
able to resist everythingthemarket offers.
Scott, who lives near Russelldale bakes his own
delicious bread, rolls, cookies and muffins and sells
them Saturday mornings at the Farmers' Market in
Stratford.
