OFA directors' meeting
BY GERRY FORTUNE
The effect of taxation equalization
factors will be moderated this coming year.
No municipal levy will rise more than five
per cent for 1980. Those municipalities
which would have enjoyed decreases will
not be allowed more than a five per cent
decrease for 1980. The government has
issued no statement indicating its plans
for 1981.
The Farm Credit Corporation is not
aware of absentee farm owners holding
farm credit loans, however, it is possible.
When the farm credit act comes up for
amendment, changes to stop this
happening will be considered, directors
were informed.
Agriculture Minister Lorne Henderson
says its unfortunate that the OFA ex-
ecutive has failed to see the positive
aspects of a voluntary farm machinery code
of practise, due to a few inadeauacies.
OFA has had a representative working
with the Ontario Machinery Board to try to
develop a voluntary code. Due to unwilling-
ness by the industry to agree to several
requirements OFA has put forward, OFA
feels compelled to ask for legislation to
improve conditions in the industry.
The regulation of PCB (Public
Commercial Vehicles Act) came under
scrutiny by directors. Don Moffat and Fred
Lofton explained the position of UCO.
UCO is proposing that all present
holders of PCB licenses should be allowed
to handle all farm supplies to or from any
given point in Ontario.
Ron Jones (Simcoe North) commented
that "unless we get better regulation
of trucking licenses, getting emergency
farm parts, even within 72 hours, is just a
dream."
OFA's representation of a broad
spectrum of agriculture makes their
support for de -regulation important, said
UCO representatives.
In other decisions, directors authorized
that there be a director of insurance to
promote insurance programs, provide
information concerning farmers' insurance
needs and administer the two insurance
packages OFA has already offered. The
Co-operators has agreed to help finance
this project for the first two years.

the. themes of

and Social Pressures (Code of Practise

the convention.
All OFA members are welcome and
those who plan to visit the convention for a
day and are interested in a particular
subject should contact their regional

A Huron County resolution asking that
the Ontario government act quickly to
prevent further purchases by absentee
foreign interests was carried.
