The Rural Voice, 1979-11, Page 49Tuckersmith farmer collects $1500 for tornado relief Bert Branderhorst, R.R.1, Hensall has put a lot of time and effort collecting for the Tornado Relief fund in Tuckersmith Town- ship. He personally collected $1,500 for the fund. Tuckersmith federation is still con- tinuing their canvas in the area. Profile Andy Durand Andy Durand "Farming -that's my life - I love it," states Andy Durand, federation president for Hay township. Andy has been elected regional director for South Huron. Andy and his wife Sharon and their tour children maintain an operation that includes 90 sows and a feeder barn that holds 350 pigs. "If the price of pigs stays the way they are though," he says, "I'II cut my sow herd in half". On 250 acres that he owns, as well as 66 acres that he rents, Andy grows corn, wheat and mixed grain- 40 acres is set aside for red kidney beans which he has grown for six consecutive years. The Durand farm is the original family farm and he was actually born there; his parents presently live just down the road. He has always worked on the farm but spent a total of seven winters working out. "Anything that required a strong back and a weak mind", he laughingly explains.
