Inside the Rural Voice
A little bit of everything
This issue, we highlight different family farms --a grandfather
and grandson combination; a woman farming with her children;
a corporation farmer --and a young couple with a partnership
agreement.
Reporter Alice Gibb travelled to the northern part of Bruce
County and came back with some interesting stories on farming
in the Lion's Head area. She found they have their own set of
problems pertaining to farming, as well as the challenge of
co -existing with the tourists in the peninsula.
A study of agricultural schools in Ontario by Lise Gunby is also
featured. A comprehensive chart shows the different types of
programs, qualifications and employment opportunities at the
different schools.
Congratulations to the Huron Junior Farmers on their 30th
Reunion. We have spotlighted this event with a few pictures
from the past mixed in with the new.
In the June issue of Rural Voice, we wrote about farmers going
into more specialized crops along with their corn acreage. In this
issue, we have featured one farmer specializing in vegetable
crops - Herb Gottschall, near Kirkton is growing cauliflower,
broccoli, asparagus and cabbage. Bob Burchill, near Dublin is
farming organically as he is committed to the preservation and
conservation of the soil.
A little bit of everything in this issue of the Rural Voice.
We would appreciate hearing from you. Presently, we are
getting back the results from a random readership survey that
we sent out with the last issue of the Rural Voice. Feel free to
write us a letter and tell us what you'd like in the forthcoming
issues.
Next month we hope to have varied stories on horses - work
horses, racing horses - horses for fun and profit.
Letters to the editor
are welcome!
